Laguna Capital is committed to ESG outcomes in everything that we do. Our ESG goals are to:
• Ensure that key governance decisions are informed by ESG considerations
• Develop a conscious commitment and competence to support ESG in all business units.
• Engender a high-level of visibility for our ESG endeavours to create greater awareness both internally and externally, to inspire other organisations towards ESG goals.
• Empower all business units to make rational and pragmatic decisions which factor in all dimensions of operational performance (financial, environmental, social).
• Strive for zero net emissions and provide an advocacy role for other organisations to follow suit.
• Support our teams and our community through financially, socially and environmentally responsible actions and decision making.
A significant aspect of our commitment to ESG is a focus on zero net emissions.
This is principally through installation of solar energy on the buildings we own and advocacy of sustainability in buildings that we manage.
The commercial and residential buildings we manage are equipped with solar panels to produce more electricity they use. Each site has embedded networks and we provide power for less than normal energy retailers.
MD, David Langdon said the key driver for installing solar for the buildings was:
“Just ideological. I like the idea of being self-sufficient and creating a differentiation between us as a landlord to the tenant. We’ve got some tenants that are saving $3- $4,000 a year from us giving them their power directly. This is a huge benefit in addition to our commitment to reducing carbon emissions wherever we can.”
Each building is also being equipped with batteries which will act as surge protectors if the power goes down. Every tenant will be notified to indicate that the power is being run on the battery, so that they can shutdown anything non-critical.
Our commitment to net zero also extends to our residential investment properties and every property we facilitate is equipped with solar panels towards net zero, with the additional benefit of saving tenants on power costs.
Our philanthropy includes volunteering leadership and providing financial sponsorship of the Brisbane-based Community Living Association. CLA supports people with intellectual and cognitive disabilities and young people at risk, to get the most out of their lives.
Water efficient technology
To embrace a sustainable future and to save our tenants money, we invest in new technologies to help us operate more effectively and environmentally.
FLOWD Smart Water Solutions is an application that came about from a shared vision to conserve water and solve problems arising from undetected water leaks.
All our buildings have been installed with FLOWD, so our tenants can feel secure that if there is a leak, it will be detected and resolved quickly.
With direct access to water usage data and by enabling usage alerts to increase efficiency, conserve water and reduce costs on an ongoing basis, FLOWD has saved tenants $1k to $1500k in water costs.
FLOWD is also being engineered to scale to be available to water utilities to make sustainable water management easier, globally.
Chemical free
In our property management businesses, our housekeepers use Ha-Ra® microfibre products to clean every property. Requiring only water and not chemicals to achieve superior results – it’s better for guests, owners, our staff and the environment.
These innovative cleaning cloths are environmentally friendly as they can be washed in the machine and used again and again. By not using chemical cleaning products in plastic bottles, we are reducing landfill waste and single use plastic.
Our guests can rest assured that the holiday homes we manage will be clean, healthy, and safe for everyone to enjoy.
We are acting now to secure a sustainable future for Aspire, our tenants and property owners through environmental commitments and responsibilities to the Noosa community.
Therefore, we invest in the latest technology and align our values with our employees and the community to be progressive in how we operate.
Our staff are our most valuable asset
Our commitment to ESG extends to our people. Our human resource policies are progressive, and all staff have the opportunity for formal review and mentoring towards career progression.
Our property management agencies employ our housekeepers as valued employees, paid properly per hour, not per contract clean as many agencies do.
This provides our teams with greater certainty in relation to their jobs and careers and leads to a better service for our owners and guests.
Disability housing
We are committed to investing in disability housing to provide much needed accommodation options for people on NDIS.
As part of this process, we develop strategic partnerships and offer long-term leases with disability services organisations. This helps towards long-term, secure accommodation options for people with disabilities.
At the core of everything we do is environmental and socially conscious governance.
This involves how we engage with our staff, contractors and suppliers, through to sustainable, solar-powered buildings. It encompasses our efforts in creating our FLOWD – Sustainable Water Management application.
Through Kaloma Management Services we are also actively developing strategic partnerships with disability services organisations to provide long-term, secure accommodation options for people with disabilities.
Our philanthropy includes volunteering leadership and providing financial sponsorship of the Brisbane-based Community Living Association. CLA supports people with intellectual and cognitive disabilities and young people at risk, to get the most out of their lives.
